Yvonne was the first runner-up in the Singapore Polytechnic Beauty Quest and a finalist with Go Magazine's Cover Girl Contest before she joined Star Search in 1997, Singapore's bi-annual talent search. She was offered a full-time artiste contract with MediaCorp Studios and was given the lead role in her debut TV drama, Starting Point, where she played a young entrepreneur, which won a lasting impression in every audience's heart. She was voted one of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes in Star Awards '98, an annual award ceremony for TV personalities.
With a natural flair for acting, Yvonne plays every character with such ease, winning raves from critics and audiences alike. Her versatility is also shown in various blockbuster drama serials ranging from the period drama Return Of The Condor Heroes to the award winning Stepping Out. In 2002, she once again impressed viewers with her acting in The Reunion and The Vagrant, which became 2 of the highest-rated drama series of the year. In the same year, she played a major role in the MediaCorp/Asia TV(Hongkong) regional co-production Innocently Guilty, a 30-part courtroom drama featuring regional stars like Anita Yuen, Wong Yat Wah, Kent Cheng and Samuel Lee. Her remarkable performance made audiences in Hongkong sit up and notice her, which subsequently secured a commercial endorsement deal for her in the territory.
This talented beauty released a solo Mandarin album in the year 2000 and hosted the hit infotainment programme City Beat in 2002. Her film debut is that of a role as the sister of a suicidal gambler in the Thai movie, Nothing to Lose, directed by the acclaimed Pang brothers.
