Geeky Sat- Natalie Portman

Portman has had her fair share of geek-centric movie roles, having starred in three Star Wars movies, shaved her head for the adaptation of Alan Moore’s V For Vendetta and talked the science talk in Thor, but has never let her acting career get in the way of her education. She skipped the premiere of The Phantom Menace (in hindsight I wish I’d done the same) in order to study for her high school exams and got herself in Harvard from which she graduated with an A.B. Degree in psychology. Whilst studying she worked as research assistant for high profile lawyer Alan Dershowitz and then took a graduate course at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem before guest lecturing at Columbia on terrorism and counter-terrorism. She’s co-authored several papers on a range of topics, having started in high school with “A Simple Method to Demonstrate the Enzymatic Production of Hydrogen from Sugar”. If, at this point, you’re starting to feel like an under-achiever you might not want to hear that she speaks Hebrew, French, German, Japanese and Arabic in addition to English. It’s amazing that she also finds the time to be an Oscar winning actor.
